Name of the Project
Mponeng life-of-mine (LoM) extension project.

Location
Near Carletonville, on the West Rand, about 90 km south-west of Johannesburg, in South Africa.

Project Owner/s
Gold mining specialist Harmony Gold Mining Company.

Project Description
Mponeng comprises two well-defined orebodies – the Carbon Leader reef (CLR) and Ventersdorp Contact reef (VCR) – with average face grades of more than 14 g/t and recovered grades of more than 9 g/t gold.

The project will access the VCR and CLR orebodies below existing infrastructure. This will be achieved through the selective extraction of the high-grade VCR areas to the east and west, through independent accesses, while eliminating the requirement to mine the lower-grade fretted terrace in the geographical centre of the orebody.
The CLR at the TauTona shaft pillar will also be mined, accessing this through the 75 Level at Mponeng.

At steady state, the project will produce 250 000 oz of gold over a 20-year mine life.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
Not stated.

Capital Expenditure
The project requires capital of R7.9-billion and is being funded in house through Mponeng’s excess operating free cash flows.

Capital expenditure guidance for the 2026 financial year is about R2.39-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
Not confirmed.

Latest Developments
Harmony reported in its interim results for the six months ended December 31, 2025, that the group continued to invest in high-return, long-life projects, including the LoM extension at Mponeng.

In its operating update for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year, Harmony reported that higher group capital expenditure reflected investment in major projects, including the Mponeng LoM extension.

The company also noted that contractor and trackless mobile machinery challenges had delayed progress at Mponeng, as well as Moab Khotsong, but these timelines had been incorporated into its LoM plans.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
None stated.
